The project
Elm Grove is one of the most demanding briefs we have worked on. Designed to full Passivhaus standard by sustainability-led architects in collaboration with environmental engineers, every home in this development was built to exceed standard energy performance targets by a significant margin. Solar PV was not an afterthought here, it was specified at design stage as part of a whole-house energy strategy.
What we delivered
Solar PV systems across all 52 homes, integrated with the wider low-energy fabric of each property. Working on a Passivhaus scheme requires a level of technical precision that goes beyond a standard install. Airtightness, thermal bridging, and system performance interact directly. Our design team worked alongside the project architects and engineers to ensure the solar specification complemented rather than compromised the building fabric.
Why it worked
Passivhaus developers choose their trades carefully. Stonewood Homes trusted us with Elm Grove because we understand that on this type of scheme, the solar system is part of the building science, not an add-on. The result is a community of 52 homes that generate their own energy, meet Passivhaus targets, and give residents energy bills that are a fraction of a standard new build.
